Tory Burch’s “Juju On That Beat” Ad Criticized for Cultural Appropriation [YouTube/Teen Vogue]
Tory Burch has faced a wave of internet backlash after posting a new ad for her summer collection starring Poppy Delevingne dancing to “Juju on that Beat,” the hit song by African-American artists Zay Hilfigerrr and Zayion McCall. The 30-year-old, flanked by two other white models, is seen performing the viral dance routine (which peaked in popularity about six months ago) in the video, which is interspersed with images of a monkey riding in the front seat of a car with Delevingne. Commenters criticized the designer for cultural appropriation and her failure to include a woman of color in the ads. According to Teen Vogue, Burch herself apologized in the comment section of the video, which has since been disabled.
Hermes Profits Up 13 Percent [Bloomberg/BBC]
Thanks to tourism spending in Asia, Italy and the U.K., Hermes has seen profits increase 13 percent for the year. The weakened pound, driven by Brexit, and terrorism in France have driven tourist spending in both London and Rome, which is credited for the boost. High performers include the luxury brand’s Birkin, Constance and Halzan handbags, as well as new fragrances.

The earrings (priced at $275 each or $535 for the pair) are available in 14k gold, yellow gold-plated brass or silver-plated brass. “The undercurrents behind women’s Off-White are undertones of issues facing the world,” said Abloh in a relase. “Climate change, women’s rights are at the forefront.
